The Lounge Stories

Cloth Remembers

We are a small clothing house and a journal of true stories, built on one stubborn belief: that every garment is a letter from the hands that made it — and that the people who make what we wear should never be invisible.

Who We Are

Two things, woven together

Part clothing house. Part storytelling journal. We make pieces by hand, and we tell the human histories sewn into them.

The Lounge Stories began with a question we couldn’t put down: who actually made this? Walk into most shops and the answer is a silence — a faceless factory, a label that says only where a thing was assembled, never by whom, or why, or at what cost. We wanted to build the opposite of that silence.

So we do two things, and we consider them the same thing. We design and sell hand block-printed clothing — kaftans, robes, dresses, and quiet everyday pieces — made the slow way in the courtyards of Rajasthan, where families have carved teak blocks and mixed natural indigo for generations. And we write. On our Stories page you’ll find true and imagined histories of cloth: the wartime coats, the wedding veils that crossed oceans, the artisans who never signed their names. Because a garment without its story is just fabric, and we are not in the fabric business. We are in the memory business.

When you buy a piece from us, you are not buying fast fashion. You are holding the far end of a very long thread — one that runs back through every hand that dyed, carved, printed, and folded it, all the way to a dye vat at dawn in a town most maps leave out.

“My grandmother kept one old blue cloth her whole life and could never quite explain why. I understand now. You don’t put that many hours into a thing for someone you don’t love. The Lounge Stories exists so those hours, and that love, are never thrown away again.”

Heritage & Craft

The Art of Block Printing

For over three centuries, the artisans of Jaipur have practiced the meticulous art of hand block printing -- a tradition passed down through generations of craftspeople who transform plain fabric into wearable art.

Each block is hand-carved from teak wood, with intricate patterns that reflect the flora, geometry, and stories of Rajasthan. The printer dips the block into natural dye, aligns it with precision, and presses it firmly onto the cloth. This is repeated thousands of times to create a single length of fabric -- no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

We work directly with master printers in Sanganer and Bagru, two villages renowned for their distinct block-printing styles. By partnering with these communities, we help preserve an art form that is as much about identity and pride as it is about beauty.

What Drives Us

Our Mission

We believe fashion should honour the hands that make it. Every choice we make -- from fabric to shipping -- is guided by respect for people and planet.

Ethically Made

Every garment is crafted in small, family-run workshops where artisans are treated with dignity and paid fair, living wages. No mass production, no shortcuts.

Fair Wages

We pay our artisan partners 30-50% above local market rates, ensuring financial stability and the freedom to continue practicing their craft for generations to come.

Sustainable Practices

We use natural and AZO-free dyes, organic cotton, and minimal plastic packaging. Our commitment to the earth is woven into every thread.

The Journey

From Workshop to Wardrobe

Every piece travels a beautiful journey before it reaches you. Here is how the magic unfolds.

01

Design

We sketch original patterns inspired by traditional Rajasthani motifs, floral forms, and the stories we want each piece to carry.

02

Carve Wooden Blocks

Master carvers chisel the design into blocks of seasoned teak wood, a process that can take days for intricate patterns.

03

Natural Dyes

Colours are derived from plants, minerals, and earth -- indigo, pomegranate, turmeric, and iron rust create our signature palette.

04

Hand Print

Artisans stamp each block by hand, aligning every impression with extraordinary precision across metres of fabric.

05

Quality Check

Every finished garment is inspected for colour fastness, print alignment, and stitching quality before it earns our label.

06

Ship with Love

Carefully folded in recycled tissue and tucked into eco-friendly packaging, your piece travels from our workshop to your wardrobe.
